ADM485ARZ -- 1/1 Transceiver Half RS422, RS485 8-SOIC
The ADM485ARZ is a high-speed, low-power differential line transceiver designed for RS-485/RS-422 communication applications. It is manufactured by Analog Devices and is suitable for high-speed bidirectional data communication on multipoint bus transmission lines. The ADM485ARZ operates from a single 5 V power supply and features thermal shutdown protection to prevent excessive power dissipation caused by bus contention or output shorting. It also has short-circuit protection and high-Z outputs with power off. The ADM485ARZ is fabricated on BiCMOS, an advanced mixed technology process combining low power CMOS with fast switching bipolar technology. All inputs and outputs contain protection against ESD, and all driver outputs feature high source and sink current capability. The ADM485ARZ is available in 8-lead PDIP, 8-lead SOIC, and small footprint, 8-lead MSOP packages.
The ADM485ARZ meets the EIA RS-485 standard and supports data rates up to 5 Mbps. It has a bus common-mode range of -7 V to +12 V and features high-speed, low power BiCMOS technology. The driver propagation delay is typically 10 ns, and the receiver propagation delay is typically 15 ns. The ADM485ARZ is suitable for low power RS-485 systems, DTE/DCE interface, packet switching, local area networks (LNAs), data concentration, data multiplexers, and integrated services digital network (ISDN).
The ADM485ARZ is designed for balanced data transmission and complies with EIA standards RS-485 and RS-422. It contains a differential line driver and a differential line receiver, both of which can be enabled independently. When disabled, the outputs are three-stated. Up to 32 transceivers can be connected simultaneously on a bus, but only one driver should be enabled at any time. The ADM485ARZ driver features high output impedance when disabled and when powered down, which minimizes the loading effect when the transceiver is not being used. The high impedance driver output is maintained over the common-mode voltage range of -7 V to +12 V. The receiver contains a fail-safe feature that results in a logic high output state if the inputs are unconnected (floating).
The ADM485ARZ is widely used in various applications, including industrial automation, process control, data acquisition systems, and building automation. It is particularly useful in environments where reliable and efficient data communication is essential. The ADM485ARZ's robust design and advanced features make it an excellent choice for designers and engineers looking for a reliable and high-performance RS-485/RS-422 transceiver solution.
