The MCP2120T-I/SL from Microchip Technology is a low-cost, high-performance, fully-static infrared encoder/decoder that interfaces between a UART and an infrared (IR) optical transceiver. This device is designed to support IrDA® Physical Layer Specification (version 1.3), enabling it to work with IrDA compliant transceivers and any UART, including standard 16550 UART and microcontroller UART. It supports transmit/receive formats of 1.63 microseconds and offers hardware or software baud rate selection, capable of operating up to the IrDA standard 115.2 kbaud and up to 312.5 kbaud at 20 MHz. The MCP2120T-I/SL also features a low power mode, Pb-free packaging, and is designed with low-power, high-speed CMOS technology for fully static operation and low voltage operation. It operates within commercial and industrial temperature ranges and consumes less than 1 mA @ 3.3V, 8 MHz (typical) and 3 mA typical @ 5.0V when enabled.
